How old do I have to be to get a tattoo?

You must be 18 years old, regardless of parental consent. This is the law (Tattooing of Minors Act 1969). Photo ID will be required.

I'm pregnant or nursing. Can I get a tattoo?

Unfortunately not. It is not advisable to undergo any tattooing procedure during this period. There is a very slim chance of passing on an infection to your baby, however it is always better to be safe than sorry. If you are having any issues with existing tattoos, please do get in touch for advice.

Does it hurt?

The simplest answer is “yes.” Tattoos by nature do hurt, although not as much as some might have you believe. After a short period of time your body’s natural pain killers (endorphins) kick in and make things much more manageable. Some areas may hurt more than others and everyone’s pain threshold varies. I will always aim to make you as comfortable as possible and recommend you follow our preparation guidelines.

How long will it take?

Tattooing is not a quick process, nor should it be rushed as you will be living with the results for the rest of your life! Each piece is unique and the subject matter, placement, color, and more will affect how long your tattoo will take. I will give you a rough estimate for the time required before you book in. I will endeavor to stay as close to this as possible, but please understand that this is an approximation and is not definitive. Making changes to the design, size or colors after the original quote was given will also impact the final time.

How much will it cost?

My fees vary based on circumstance – please fill out a consult to get the most accurate pricing. I offer hourly, full day and consecutive day sittings. Discounts may be available on multiple bookings, free reign portfolio designs and last minute cancellations. The cost will be discussed with you when making a booking request and you will be offered the best value-for-money appointment.

Do I need a deposit?

Deposits are essential to secure an appointment – no booking is confirmed without one being paid in full. The deposit amount is decided based on varying factors and taken off the appointment total.

Deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE. Should you need to move an appointment, we require 72 hours notice to rearrange and this can only be done once before we require a new deposit.

Can I bring my own design?

You’re welcome and encouraged to show me your own design and reference images, but just be aware that these will be used as inspiration to convey a theme to me. I will not copy another artist’s design.

Can you do the design before I'm booked in?

No – design work is not started until your booking is secured with a deposit. Generally, designs are ready in the days leading up to your appointment. You will also have ample time on the day of the appointment to make tweaks to your design.

Do you do cover-ups?

Yes, I do cover-ups. However, a successful cover-up will depend on what you already have and what you’re hoping to cover it with. A face-to-face consultation is strongly advised to assess your tattoo and discuss the design possibilties.

Can you tattoo over scarring?

Yes and no. Scarring that is usually at least a year old isn’t normally a problem, however this can vary depending on the type of scarring and how it has healed. A face-to-face consultation is strongly advised before booking.

Can I use numbing cream or painkillers?

We are personally unable to recommend that you apply or take anything prior to your tattoo. Numbing cream does not last all day and once it wears off, the pain can feel worse as your body has not had the opportunity to adjust to the natural tattooing process.

Some creams can also affect the skin, meaning your artist has to work the skin harder than if you were not wearing it, which can lead to a harder heal.

Regarding painkillers, please do not take aspirin before coming in for your tattoo. This can cause excess bleeding and reduce clotting which will impact the quality of your tattoo once healed.
